About the Courts Administration Service's Internet Site
This Internet site has been designed as an access point to up-to-date information regarding the Courts Administration Service (CAS), as well as to the web sites of the four Courts to which we administer.
The Tool Bar
The first menu bar on the top of the page, the Common Menu Bar, is mandatory for all Government of Canada web sites in correspondence with the norms set forth by the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada's Common Look and Feel Standards. It allows you to perform navigational tasks that are frequently necessary on all government sites, including:
- switching between the two official languages; in this case, from english to french
- allowing you to contact us
- providing help by directing you back to this page
- running a search to locate a topic of interest
- linking back to the Canada home page
The Home Page
On the home page you will find linkable images that will take you to the web sites of the four Courts to which we administer:
A fifth image will link you to the Inquiry of the Special Advisor on Federal Court Prothonotaries’ Compensation web site whose mandate is to undertake an external review of, and advise on, the adequacy of the salaries of the prothonotaries of the Federal Court.
Another notable region is the what’s new area. It is updated regularly with links to information that has recently been modified or added to the site.
The Sidebar
Keep in mind that while visiting the CAS web site, the sidebar is your key navigational tool. From the home page, it allows you immediate access to the site section that interests you. Once you are in a new section, it will adapt to the new topic, providing you with new hyperlinks related to your subject.
The first section relates to topics About CAS. Here you will find our organizational statements pertaining to history and mandate as well as our mission, vision and values statements. Furthermore, career opportunities are listed as well as useful information regarding our regional offices located across Canada.
The next section on the sidebar relates to our Registry Operations. This area includes such items of interest as circulars issued by the Chief Administrator and useful, related links. Another area in this section provides information on hearings before the Assessor covering the areas of Health of Animals, Plant Protection Act and the Pesticide and Residue Compensation Act.
The next section on the sidebar provides access to our Departmental Publications:
Lastly, the Government of Canada has implemented a series of measures to strengthen public sector management by enhancing transparency and oversight of public resources in the federal government.
One of these measures includes the proactive disclosure of financial- and human resources-related information by departments and agencies. You will find these statements as the last item on the sidebar. By making this information readily available on departmental web sites, Canadians and Parliament are better able to hold the Government and public sector officials to account.
Accessibility Features Statement
In order to make this site more accessible, CAS has employed templates which:
- improve compatibility with adaptive technologies, handheld devices, browsers and search engines;
- include major components, such as the common menu bar, side menu and content area that are properly marked up with headings to simplify navigation with a screen reader;
- improve accessibility by allowing visitors to configure visual elements to meet their accessibility needs;
- use scaleable fonts and text-based navigational elements to improve accessibility and simplify navigation using adaptive technologies;
- provide printer-friendly functionality in the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to render pages more compatible with printers and to prevent printing unnecessary page elements;
- separate visual presentation from the document structure;
- avoid truncated and overlapped elements at very large font sizes;
- display the title value when a link gains keyboard focus; and
- employ skip navigation links at the beginning of the page for quickly moving to the content or the institutional links. These skip navigation links become visible when a mouse pointer hovers over top or when selected using a keyboard or other alternate input device.
While every reasonable effort has been made to ensure the accessibility of this site, some content or services found here might be inaccessible to some visitors. In those circumstances, the contact information for someone who can assist you has been provided.
